INFINITE SNDS is a South London-based open-format DJ duo, known for playing spontaneous, eclectic selections that move across genres and sounds.
Their selections span a diverse mix of genres, often drawing from Black electronic music and the many sounds within and around it — from House, Afro House, Garage and UK Funky to alternative edits and other electronic sub-genres.
Being open-format allows them to move across different genres depending on the space, crowd and occasion, while still keeping a clear sense of our own musical tastes and influences.
As a duo, they each bring their own individual tastes, influences and music knowledge to what we play. This gives INFINITE SNDS a wider range to draw from and allows them to shape each set together, rather than being tied to one particular sound.
INTERVIEW
What made you fall in love with DJing, and how has your approach evolved?
INFINITE SNDS: When we were 15, we saw an older girl DJing tribal house on CDs at our local youth club. We were completely mesmerised watching her play, and from that exact moment, we knew what we wanted to do.
How do you craft a sound that feels personal, while connecting with a wider audience?
DYNELLE: I try to incorporate songs we genuinely love, which aren’t always obvious crowd-pleasers and can sometimes be deeper cuts. More often than not, there’s someone in the crowd who appreciates that song just as much as we do. Those moments of connection are really special and can make people remember us and our sets.
JESSICA: I tend to focus on a feeling and what we want the set to feel like, depending on the set time, occasion and type of event. When we stay true to that feeling, it usually resonates with the audience too.
When you’re feeling stuck creatively, what helps you regain your flow and inspiration?
DYNELLE: Downloading new music and browsing SoundCloud really helps inspire me. Sometimes listening to the same music repeatedly can make me feel creatively stuck, whereas exploring different genres and discovering new music helps stimulate my creativity and encourages me to experiment with new sounds.
JESSICA: Stepping away from music helps me reset and refocus on other passions, while reconnecting with my core taste. Unplugging clears the noise so I can rediscover what actually inspires me and get my creative drive flowing again.
