INTERVIEW

What first drew you to DJing, and how has your sound evolved over time?

ZERO DIJITS: From my mid teens I began to write lyrics and MC over Grime and UK Garage. I went from emceeing with friends to progress onto a local Online Radio Station in North London, called AxeFM. After a few guest appearances, the station manager offered me my own show. I brought in a local friend to DJ while I emceed, and during those first shows I was in awe of the craft he brought to the table. That was the moment I knew I wanted to be more deeply involved.

There’s more to the story, but that spark set me on this path.

How would you describe the emotions or energy you try to bring to your sets

ZERO DIJITS: On and off deck, I aim for flow, depth, warmth, and seduction. I think about how a symphony conductor shapes a performance and try to mirror that sense of artistry through my mixes.

Are there any particular artists, cultures, or experiences that have shaped your musical identity?

ZERO DIJITS: I can’t narrow it down to one influence, but growing up in both Caribbean and British culture has had a huge effect on my musical identity. The blend of sounds, rhythms and cultural experiences is at the heart of my style.

How do you balance playing what you love versus what the crowd expects?

ZERO DIJITS: Over time I’ve learned to slip in a few sing-along tracks so listeners — especially new ones — have something to connect with. But I also love experimental music and my particular sound, so I always balance the familiar with the unexpected.

Is there a particular genre or sound you’re currently exploring or excited about?

ZERO DIJITS: I’m mainly nurturing my House, Techno and Tech House library, though I also dip into garage, grime, soca, and R&B — sometimes fusing them into my sets to create something refreshing and authentic.

The music industry can be intense. How do you take care of your mental and emotional well-being?

ZERO DIJITS: I try to detach from social hierarchies as much as possible, taking my ego and overthinking out of the conversation while still pushing myself to reach my potential through a general sense of decorum, gig bookings and maintaining my radio residency.

Staying consistent is my success key.

I also train as much as I can physically to stay focused and in shape.

What keeps you inspired and motivated when you hit creative or personal challenges?

ZERO DIJITS: Self-belief, my love for the creative field, and my relationship with my Higher Power. I believe I’m here to do His/Their will and to help others. That faith helps me get back up whenever I fall.

Beyond music, how do you see yourself in the world what drives you and your purpose?

ZERO DIJITS: Some things I keep to myself that’s my secret.

Have you faced any challenges in the industry that shaped the way you approach your craft?

ZERO DIJITS: Yes, definitely. The best cure I’ve found is to create as much clarity in my life as possible, stay away from lower states of consciousness, and remain consistent. But I’m no Superhero, I’m human — situations can be tough sometimes.

Do you think electronic music is becoming more inclusive? What progress do you hope to see?

ZERO DIJITS: In some ways, yes — women, the queer community, and people of colour are becoming increasingly recognised. But I also notice that those who rise often fit into a capitalist/certain mould. It’s been that way since the birth of mass media. I won’t say too much, but if you know, you know.

How do you navigate spaces where you might feel underrepresented or overlooked?

ZERO DIJITS: With confidence. No one can stop what The Almighty or fate has planned, so I won’t stop myself either. I don’t believe in shrinking to fit in — if I’m in a space or given an opportunity, I show up fully. The key is to stay respectful, but always do you.

If you could create your dream lineup for an event, who would be on it?

ZERO DIJITS: Good question! In no particular order (and apologies if I leave anyone out) …

Stage / Room 1: Zero Dijits, Joey Rebelle, Taylah Elaine, DJ Dean Lyon, Culoe De Song, Beezo b2b Dean Allen, Sam Divine

Stage / Room 2: Black Coffee, Ben Klock, Skepta, DJ Daisy Belle, The Blessed Madonna, Broadcite, Kerri Chandler, Kevin Sauderson

Stage / Room 3: Bok Bok, Ikonika, Supa D b2b KG, DJ Pioneer

Courtyard Entrance / Terrace: MoodyMan, Black Hudu, Jamz Supernova, Kenny Dope

What’s a festival, venue, or city you dream of performing at, and why?

ZERO DIJITS: City-wise: Berlin, Barcelona, and Milan feel like ideal places, where crowds truly let loose.

Venue-wise: Phonox, Fabric, Warehouse Project, The Outernet (UK), Rex (Paris), DC10 (Ibiza), and anywhere liberal, vibey, and slightly boujee. Melkweg (Amsterdam) and Club Black & White (Ayia Napa) are also on my radar. Festival wise: I would love to play at Sonar or ADE. Bonus answer: I’d love to play in and explore Trinidad and Mexico — the weather, the vibe, and the energy there look incredible. South Africa is also high on my list because Afro and Afro Tech was born there, and as someone of Afro-Caribbean heritage, it would

be a deeply spiritual journey. I’d also love to explore Brazil and other parts of South America — the attitude and atmosphere feel like my kind of energy.

Great question — it really brought back old memories, goals, and aspirations.
